Cedar City celebrated a milestone as the Southern Utah National Cemetery was officially dedicated on September 10, 2025.
Nestled south of the Providence Center, this new cemetery honors U.S. veterans, service members, and their families, creating a lasting local tribute.
About 300 people, including community leaders and VA officials, gathered for the ceremony.
Roderick “Tony” Thomas noted it is the 157th national cemetery established by the VA.
VA Secretary Doug Collins highlighted the importance of giving rural area veterans a place to rest close to loved ones, calling the grounds a source of comfort and healing.
The 8.14-acre site, completed in 19 months for $11.8 million, is expected to boost the local economy by $7 million.
The first burials are set for later this month at 2181 West 1600 South, expanding meaningful, accessible burial options for veterans in southern Utah. Read More... |
