Friday night brought high drama to Sanpete County as Cedar City’s 3A football teams clashed with local rivals on the road.
The Cedar Reds secured a thrilling 38-28 win over Manti, avenging last year’s championship heartbreak in a game that stayed tense until the closing minutes.
Senior quarterback Jackson Mann ignited Cedar’s offense with a spectacular 80-yard touchdown pass to Kutler Tom in the opening drive.
After a 21-21 halftime tie, Owen Burton’s third-quarter rushing touchdown gave Cedar a slim lead, but Manti fought back to briefly even the score.
Braxton DeMille’s crucial fourth-quarter touchdown and Cody Stevenson’s 22-yard field goal sealed the victory, sending the Reds home with momentum for next week’s faceoff against North Sanpete.
Meanwhile, Canyon View fell 21-13 to North Sanpete after late mistakes proved costly, sharpening competitive edges across southern Utah as football season heats up. Read More... |

Secret Little Hack |
Skip the Crowds at Brian Head by Staging from Cedar City's Secret Parking Rhythm
Most visitors to the Cedar City area book lodging near Brian Head or Bryce Canyon and spend half their trip crawling through bottleneck traffic. The insider move: use Cedar City itself as your base and time your departures around the local college schedule.
Southern Utah University runs on a Tuesday-Thursday heavy class schedule, meaning Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings the downtown area clears out dramatically early — gas stations, grocery stores, and the handful of outfitter shops on Main Street are essentially walk-in ready with zero wait. Stock up then, hit the road by 7 a.m., and you'll reach Cedar Breaks National Monument a full hour before the tour-bus wave arrives from St. George.
The deeper trick: Cedar Breaks has a lesser-used north pullout that most GPS apps route visitors away from because it adds four minutes to the drive. That extra four minutes buys you a viewpoint almost entirely to yourself, with the same 10,000-foot rim perspective but without the elbow-to-elbow crowd at Point Supreme. Locals have quietly enjoyed this for years while visitors unknowingly queue up at the obvious spot. |
