Interesting Facts
  • The "Iron Mission": Cedar City was founded in 1851 as an industrial outpost specifically to produce iron for the isolated Western territories. It became the site of the first iron manufactured west of the Mississippi.
  • Mortgaging for Education: To secure the town's college (now Southern Utah University), local residents went to extreme lengths, even mortgaging their own homes to finance the construction of its first building.

LS Electric is ramping up its U.S. operations to meet the soaring power needs driven by the explosive growth of AI data centers.

In April 2025, the company opened its Bastrop Campus in Texas, a state-of-the-art facility focused on producing power equipment and distribution systems for leading American technology firms.

LS Electric is also expanding its Cedar City, Utah-based subsidiary, MCM Engineering II, with plans to triple its annual output of power distribution panels from 1,200 to 3,600 units.

Construction will begin this year, with the upgraded facility expected online by 2027.

These efforts come as global demand for power distribution equipment surges, fueled by data centers now using 4% of U.S. electricity—a figure set to triple by 2030.

Through these strategic investments, LS Electric aims to strengthen America’s power grid and secure its place as a leader in the evolving digital economy.

Tip of The Day

Dress for extreme elevation swings. While downtown Cedar City averages highs of 44°F in February, neighboring Cedar Breaks National Monument and Brian Head Resort sit at 10,000+ feet and can be 20–30 degrees colder. If you plan to see the "crimson canyons" in the snow at Kolob Canyons or ski at Brian Head, heavy winter layers and a windbreaker are essential for the breezy mountain air.

The Southern Utah women’s basketball team powered to a 77-68 home victory over UT Arlington on January 29, securing their third straight Western Athletic Conference win.

Ava Uhrich led the way with a career-best 30 points and shot a remarkable 81.8% from the field, while also contributing nine rebounds and four assists.
