SUU Polynesian Showcase and Cultural Events in Cedar City Utah |
Featuring the Pacific Islander Student Association and Polynesian dance performances |
The Southern Utah Pacific Islander Student Association (SUPISA) is set to host its Annual Polynesian Showcase from March 5 to 7 at 6 p.m. in the SUU Auditorium Theatre.
This year's theme, "One Root, Many Islands: A Celebration of Culture, Connection & Kava," emphasizes the shared traditions and values of Polynesian communities across the Pacific.
The showcase will feature traditional and contemporary performances representing Hawaiʻi, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, Fiji, and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
The event centers on the cultural significance of the kava root—a symbol of unity, respect, humility, and community throughout the Pacific Islands.
Through dance, music, and storytelling, students will honor their ancestors while celebrating the vibrancy of living island cultures.
Under the leadership of Tevita Sekeni, director of Pacific Region Operations for SUU International Affairs, and Noaese Taeatafa, academic advisor for the SUU School of Aviation, SUPISA has meticulously prepared for this event.
Cultural choreography for each represented Polynesian community is guided by Kumu with expertise and care in their respective traditions:
Fiji will be led by Mr. Napoleone Sekeni and Ms. Toagamua Tavila.
Hawai'i: Ms. Lahela Hoopii, Mr. Kaleo Fallu, and Ms. Eva Alcoran.
New Zealand: Mr. Olaea Puefua, Ms. Eva Alcoran, and Mr. Keoni Fallau.
Samoa: Ms. Muasita Suani and Ms. Toagamua Tavila.
Tahiti: Ms. Magdalene Timoteo, Ms. Toagamua Tavila, and Mr. Isaiah Maiava.
Tonga: Sir Andrew Tuli, Ms. Ileini Teisa Tuli, and Ms. Muasita Suani.
The Polynesian Showcase is one of SUPISA's largest annual events and is open to students, families, and community members.
Tickets are available via Venmo at @cedarcitypisa or at the door.
Prices are $7 for students with ID, $5 for children under 12, and $10 for general admission.
