CEDAR CITY, Utah — On weeknights and Saturday afternoons, it is getting a little easier to talk kids into putting their phones away. Families are flocking to the new Pickle & Play Family Fun Center, a bright, indoor space that mixes pickleball courts with arcade games, a small café and plenty of room to burn off energy.

Located on Cedar City's south side, the center was designed with local families in mind. Owners say they wanted something that felt welcoming for every age — from grandparents who love a good doubles match to toddlers who mainly care about the soft play area and cotton candy.

Pickleball for Every Skill Level

Pickleball has exploded in popularity across Southern Utah, but open court time can be hard to find when the weather is bad or when outdoor courts are busy. Pickle & Play offers climate-controlled courts that can be reserved for casual games, birthday parties or low-key leagues.

Beginners don't have to be shy. Introductory clinics walk new players through the basics, from how to hold a paddle to where to stand on the court. Loaner paddles and balls are available for anyone who wants to test the waters before investing in their own gear.

More Than Just a Game

While pickleball is the headline attraction, it is not the only way to play. An arcade corner features classic and modern games, giving teens a place to compete for high scores while younger kids explore age-friendly options. Between matches, families can grab snacks, pizza or smoothies from the on-site café without having to leave and come back.

The owners have also set aside space for small events: youth group nights, office team-building activities, and “parents versus kids” tournaments that usually end in laughter, not trophies. Large windows and seating areas around the courts make it easy for non-players to cheer, visit with friends or simply enjoy watching the action.

A New Gathering Place for Cedar City

For many locals, the biggest benefit is having another indoor option that encourages movement and connection, especially during winter storms or blazing summer afternoons. Instead of everyone scattering to separate activities, families can spend a few hours under the same roof doing different things and still feel like they are together.

Pickle & Play is also partnering with local schools and youth programs to host occasional fundraisers and incentive nights. Students can earn free court time or arcade tokens for meeting reading goals, showing good attendance or participating in community service projects.

How to Check It Out

Residents who want to give the new center a try can watch social media for weekly specials, open play schedules and beginner clinic dates. Advance court reservations are recommended for weekend evenings, while weekday afternoons tend to be more relaxed.

Whether you are learning your first dink shot, chasing toddlers through the play area or just catching up with friends along the sidelines, the new Pickle & Play Family Fun Center is quickly becoming one of Cedar City's favorite spots to gather, move and laugh together.
