Hurricane’s Brecken Michler signs to play lacrosse at SUU

Brecken Michler, a standout from Hurricane High School, is set to bring his lacrosse talents to Southern University this fall. Reflecting on this milestone, Michler shared, "It's something I never really imagined. No one in my family has ever done this, so I'm thrilled. It should be fun."

Michler's journey with the Hurricane Tigers began in his sophomore year as a defender, a role he maintained through most of his junior season. Transitioning to offense in his senior year, he switched to a short stick and emerged as the team's leading scorer, assist provider, and points leader. According to recent reports, Michler concluded the season with 46 goals and 14 assists, totaling 60 points.

His defensive background provided a strategic advantage when he moved to offense. "When I started playing defense, I learned what they look for," Michler explained. "That helped me figure out how to stay away from a defender and how to break down a defense."

The Tigers wrapped up the season with a 7-13 overall record and a 4-3 standing in Region 9 games. A historic highlight was their first-ever 4A state playoff victory on May 12, defeating Cedar 12–8, with Michler contributing five goals and an assist. Their playoff run concluded on May 15 with a 17–2 loss to Waterford, the eventual 4A state champions.

Head coach Brad Hall emphasized the program's growth, noting the progression from zero wins in the inaugural year to five, and then seven over the first three seasons. He credited much of this success to Michler's dedication. "A three-year captain, extremely dedicated," Hall remarked. "A good playmaker and more than that, just such a great team motivator. Guys followed his lead, and he led our offense."

Southern University's lacrosse program is eager to welcome Michler's talent and leadership to their roster this upcoming season.
