Southern Utah arts scene has been growing a lot lately. Festival City Ballet could be a big part of that if they stick around.
Phil DenningAgreed. The Shakespeare Festival kind of paved the way and now it feels like other arts groups are following that lead. Hope Festival City Ballet becomes a regular thing here.
My niece is playing one of the cards in the Queen of Hearts scene and the whole family is going Saturday. Cannot wait to cheer her on.
Jessica MahonThat is awesome, the Queen of Hearts scenes are always the most fun to watch. Hope your niece has an amazing night!
Really hope they do more shows after this one. Two nights feels short for something this big.
This kind of thing is what builds a real arts community over time. Not just one show but a company that keeps coming back.
Went to the Heritage Theater last year for something else and the sight lines from the balcony are not great. Try to get main floor seats if you can.
The Queen of Hearts is my favorite character in the whole story. Hope they go full dramatic with her in this version.
Anyone know if there are discounts for students or seniors? Would love to bring my mom but want to check on pricing first.
Not a ballet person myself but might actually go just to see the set and projections. Sounds like a cool experience regardless.
Sam HoltHonestly that is how I got into ballet years ago. Went for the spectacle and stayed for everything else. Give it a shot, you might surprise yourself.
Cedar City needed something like this at the end of summer. Perfect timing before school gets too crazy busy.
My wife teaches at one of the neighborhood studios mentioned and the amount of work that went into this is unreal. Huge effort.
DerekMThat is so cool your wife is involved. You can always tell when a production has real people invested in it versus just going through the motions. Looking forward to seeing it.
Original choreography and custom costumes for a debut show is ambitious. Really hoping it lives up to the hype.
I used to go to big productions up in Salt Lake and honestly Cedar City is starting to hold its own. This is a good sign.
tom_slc_transplantSame here, moved down from the valley a few years ago and honestly the arts scene surprised me. It keeps getting better. Glad productions like this are choosing Cedar City.
The Heritage Theater is such a perfect spot for this. That place has such a great atmosphere for live performance.
September 14 is a Sunday so just double checking the 7:30 start time works for people with little ones. Might be a late night.
Kevin UreGood point. We are taking our 7 year old and were wondering the same thing. Hoping the show runs around 90 minutes or so but I could not find a runtime anywhere.
So happy for the local studio students getting a real stage experience like this. These opportunities matter so much when you are young.
Pam SorensenCompletely agree. My daughter did a small recital last spring and the confidence boost alone was worth everything. Performing on an actual stage at the Heritage Theater is a whole other level.
The Mad Hatter in ballet form is something I genuinely need to see. That character is wild enough as it is.
Took my kids to a ballet for the first time last spring and they loved it way more than I expected. This one sounds even better.
Good to see the arts district investment actually paying off with something like this. That area needed more life.
The custom projections sound incredible. Really curious how they pull off the rabbit hole scene on that stage.
Hope the parking situation downtown is better than last time there was a big event at Heritage Theater. That was a nightmare.
We moved here from St George last year and stuff like this is exactly why Cedar City felt like the right place to raise our family.
100 performers is no small thing for a debut show. That is a serious commitment from the community.
Alice in Wonderland as a ballet sounds amazing honestly. Never thought about that story being done this way but it makes total sense.
Already got my tickets for Saturday night. Heard they sell out fast so do not wait too long people.
Tyler MossThanks for the heads up! Just checked and there are still some seats left for Friday. Grabbed two before reading the rest of your comment lol.
My daughter has been rehearsing for months and I cannot wait to see her on that stage at the Heritage Theater. So proud of all these kids.
