Public Invited to ‘Topping Off’ Party for New Family Fun Center Under Construction in Cedar City

Community milestone event marks a new era in year-round recreation for kids and families.

Pickle & Play, a new family fun center under construction in Cedar City, is hosting a public “topping off” party on Thursday as workers prepare to place the final steel truss on the roof.

“From 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday (April 23), anybody can stop by anytime, take five minutes and sign the beam,” said Pickle & Play owner Spencer Eaton, adding that there will be free food and prizes given out during the event.

“We’ve got some drawings, where we're giving away pickleball paddles and gift cards,” Eaton said. “We’re trying to make it a fun family event for people to come out and enjoy.”

Eaton said the 26,000-square-foot facility will include six indoor pickleball courts, a roller skating rink, a miniature golf course, virtual reality rooms, party rooms and a kitchen for concessions. “It’s going to be fun,” Eaton said, adding he hopes the building will be finished and ready to open by late fall, around the first part of December.

Local pickleball expert Jeremy Waite said he’s looking forward to the addition of six new courts in town. “Having six indoor pickleball courts that are open to the public at Pickle & Play is going to be so exciting for our community.”

“Pickleball has been growing fast in our community and this is going to open up a lot of opportunities, such as leagues and clinics for various age groups,” Waite added. “In addition to pickleball, the community has been asking for more family-friendly things to do year-round. The roller rink, mini golf, party rooms and escape rooms can provide fun activities for people of all ages. I think this business is going to be a great addition to our wonderful community.”

Eaton said he and his wife Cami, who are partners in the new venture, are looking forward to creating a space where local families can have fun together.

“It’s something that will give people another option of something fun to do in Cedar City,” he said. “We're passionate about it and just really excited.”

Eaton also gave a shoutout to the various local businesses and workers contracted to do the work on the building and its amenities, including general contractor Think Construction Utah and other contractors, including Holbrook, Shepherd Plumbing and Mogensen Electric.
