The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games recently hosted its annual water polo tournament in Cedar City, drawing teams from across the state to compete at the Southern Utah University campus.

Over the weekend, 21 teams vied for medals across five divisions at both the J.L. Sorenson PE Building and the Cedar City Aquatic Center.

In the 18U Boys' Division, Cyprus clinched the gold medal by edging out Utah County with a 13-11 victory.

Cyprus's path to the championship included an upset over top-seeded Bear River in the semifinals.

Coach Jason Hayes expressed his pride, noting, "We've been coming down to the Games for a long time, and it's great to finally win one."

On the 18U Girls' side, Canyon View dominated Bear River with an 11-5 win, maintaining an undefeated record throughout the tournament and amassing 84 goals.

Coach Melanie Alger highlighted the team's hard work and cohesion, stating, "They worked well as a team, they tried their best, and they do everything that they can."

Other division winners included Bear River in the 14U Mixed bracket, and the Spartans program from Murray, which secured titles in both the 10U and 12U categories.

Rob Small, the USG Sport Coordinator, emphasized the tournament's role as a showcase for Utah water polo, providing teams with a competitive warm-up for the upcoming state tournament.

He also noted the event's growing appeal to teams from neighboring states.

Looking ahead, the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games will continue with a Girls' Flag Football Skills Camp hosted by the Las Vegas Raiders on April 25.

Additionally, the 'Three Events at Three Peaks' series is scheduled for May 2, featuring mountain biking, gravel biking, and trail running events.

These activities will serve as fundraisers for Special Olympics Utah programming in southern Utah.
