Families quickly embraced the winter surprise, with students and their parents turning school hills into lively sledding runs.
Local dad Robert Eaton joined his kids at Canyon View Middle and High School, enjoying sledding and snowman building alongside other families.
Parts of Iron County saw more than a foot of accumulation, making roads nearly impassable and buses unsafe, explained Shauna Lund from the school district.
The district, which usually favors delayed starts, opted for a rare full closure due to the storm’s severity.
Because many students lack reliable devices, a virtual learning day wasn’t possible, but the district’s calendar includes one extra day to accommodate closures without impacting lessons.
