Trivia Question❓

What is the official state fruit of Utah and where is it prominently featured in Cedar City's annual festival?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Cedar High School’s football team made history by clinching their first state championship in 75 years, defeating the Manti Templars 41-35 in a thrilling 3A state title game at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

After falling behind 21-7 early, the Reds demonstrated remarkable grit and determination.

Senior quarterback Everett Kelling led the charge, scoring four rushing touchdowns and passing for another, cementing his role as a key playmaker in Cedar’s comeback.

Coach Tye Hiatt, in only his second year, celebrated the team’s commitment and new culture of accountability, underscoring the importance of their historic run.

Both teams delivered explosive offensive performances, combining for nearly 1,100 total yards, with Cedar racking up 495.

Cedar’s final drive, powered by Kelling’s leadership, sealed their undefeated 13-0 season and a victory representing sheer perseverance and heart.

Joke Of The Day

Why did the computer go to the therapist?

Because it had too many windows and couldn't open up!

Cutting your own tree in the Dixie National Forest brings families across Southern Utah together each holiday season.

Permits to harvest a tree are available from November 4 through December 31, either online or at local ranger district offices.

Each $10 permit covers one tree up to 10 feet tall, while those seeking a taller tree up to 20 feet will pay $20.

Be sure to choose only allowed species for your district:

Pine Valley District permits just pinyon pine and juniper, Cedar City District includes fir and pinyon, and Powell and Escalante allow all but bristlecone pine.

Always attach your printed permit to your tree during transport.

Fourth graders in the Every Kid Outdoors program can receive a free permit—just show your pass or voucher when applying.

Celebrate this memorable holiday tradition while helping preserve forest health for future generations.

Visit the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA) to discover local artists and immerse yourself in the vibrant art scene of Cedar City.

The new roundabout at University Boulevard and 1150 West is officially open in Cedar City after nearly five months of construction.

Local officials, Southern Utah University students, and project workers marked the occasion with a community walk around the intersection.

SUU President Mindy Benson shared hope that the roundabout will ease traffic congestion, especially during peak class times and winter storms.

The Utah Department of Transportation, working closely with SUU, emphasized the roundabout’s improved safety for both vehicles and pedestrians compared to traditional stoplights.

Despite construction delays, the compact design still accommodates large vehicles and emergency services.

Additional SUU campus projects, including business and music building expansions, are also underway, signaling ongoing growth for the Cedar City community.

Hike to the top of the "C" on the Cedar Canyon trail for the best panoramic views of the city and surrounding red rocks.

Jim Rushton has narrowly been elected as Enoch, Utah’s new mayor, winning by just four votes—422 to 418—demonstrating the profound impact of every ballot in local races.

This close victory highlights the importance of civic participation in Enoch, a city with roots dating back to 1851 when founded by Joel H. Johnson.

Originally known as “Johnson’s Springs” and later “Fort Johnson,” Enoch was officially renamed in 1890 and incorporated in 1966, evolving into a thriving part of Iron County.

Nearby Paragonah also saw a tightly contested race, as R. Todd Robinson edged out Constance B. Robinson by three votes, 98 to 95.

These razor-thin results underline the essential role residents play in shaping their community’s future, as new leaders now guide these historic Iron County towns.
