East Elementary School celebrated its 75th anniversary with a vibrant gathering of families, alumni, and past staff, filling the beloved halls with nostalgia and excitement.
Attendees reminisced as they visited old classrooms, knowing the current building will soon make way for a state-of-the-art, two-story facility set to open this fall.
The new space will feature cutting-edge technology, larger classrooms, more parking, and unique stadium-style seating in a versatile gymnasium-cafeteria, all designed to accommodate a growing student body.
School historian Jennifer Smith highlighted the building’s four-phase construction and its memorable basement, once a bomb shelter and later a site for mischief and camaraderie.
Principal Mike Moyle thanked the community, promising to honor cherished traditions in the new school, while former principal Steve Burton reflected on the shared spirit of Ubuntu that unites everyone.

More than 600 community members gathered in Cedar City to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gapyeong, also known as the Miracle of Gapyeong, honoring local heroes from the Korean War.
The 213th Field Artillery Battalion—composed mostly of young men from the area—was celebrated for its crucial role in the battle and for returning home safely, symbolizing remarkable bravery and resilience.
Cedar City Mayor Steve Nelson praised the deep bond with Gapyeong, South Korea, highlighted by years of cultural and educational exchanges since their sister-city partnership began in 2009.
The day also commemorated the Triple Deuce’s century of service and 20 years since their Iraq deployment.
