The Orchestra of Southern Utah will celebrate America's 250th anniversary with "America in Harmony," a vibrant concert on February 19 at 7:30 PM at the Heritage Theater in Cedar City.

 

The evening opens with "The Star-Spangled Banner," marking the nation’s rich heritage.

 

Led by Music Director Carylee Zwang, the program explores American music from the Revolutionary period to 20th-century jazz, embodying the season's theme, America's Playlist.

 

A standout will be Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue," featuring pianist Christian Bohnenstengel and clarinetist Trevor Davis.

 

Audiences will enjoy Copland’s "Rodeo Suite" with dynamic dance from the John Mead Dance Company, alongside pieces by Barber, Anderson, and Joplin.

 

The concert features vocal group SideNote and works by French composer Vieuxtemps.

Southern Utah University will host the Utah High School Activities Association’s 3A State Basketball Championships from February 19 to 21 at the America First Event Center in Cedar City.

 

Championship games are set for Saturday, February 21, with the girls tipping off at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

 

Jon Oglesby, director of the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games, shared enthusiasm for welcoming student-athletes, coaches, and local communities.

 

Attendees can park for free in designated campus lots for the event.

 

Guests should use the west doors or the east entrance linked to Sharwan Smith Student Center for entry, and take note of SUU’s clear bag policy.

Southern Utah University’s gymnastics team clinched an impressive second-place finish at the Utah State quad meet in Logan, scoring 195.525.

 

The Thunderbirds topped Sacramento State and Alaska Anchorage, coming just short of overtaking the host team, Utah State, who finished at 195.875.

 

Freshman Ariel Collum was a standout, posting a career-high 9.900 on the uneven bars—marking the meet's best score in that event.

 

SUU delivered strong performances across all apparatus, with notable showings from Alex Routsis, Berlin Hall, Elliot Bringhurst, and Kayla Pardue.

 

The team’s steady routines on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, and vault showcased depth and resilience throughout the meet.

 

Southern Utah now looks ahead to a road matchup against Oregon State, set for February 14 at 3 p.m. MT, with streaming coverage available.
