Washington and Iron Counties Lead Utah in Job Growth, Surpassing State Average |
Southern Utah's Economic Surge Continues with Robust Employment Gains |
Washington and Iron counties are at the forefront of Utah's employment expansion, consistently outpacing the state's average job growth.
In July 2025, Washington County's employment surged by 4.8%, reaching 90,000 jobs, while Iron County experienced a 6.3% increase, totaling 26,000 jobs.
These figures stand in contrast to Utah's overall nonfarm employment growth of 2.3% during the same period.
Ben Crabb, chief economist with the Department of Workforce Services, highlighted the significance of these gains, noting they underscore employer confidence and economic resilience.
Several factors contribute to this economic momentum.
Washington County's strategic location, offering proximity to major Western markets, has attracted diverse industries.
Additionally, the development of the Iron Springs Inland Port Project Area in Iron County has revitalized the local economy by enhancing transportation infrastructure and facilitating business operations.
These developments have not only bolstered job creation but also improved the overall economic landscape of Southern Utah.
As the region continues to invest in infrastructure and attract new businesses, Washington and Iron counties are poised to maintain their leadership in job growth, contributing significantly to Utah's economic prosperity. |
