SUU Gymnastics Shines at Utah State Quad Meet

Highlights from Southern Utah Gymnastics at Utah State University

The Southern Utah University gymnastics team delivered a commendable performance at the Utah State quad meet in Logan, securing a second-place finish with a score of 195.525. This result placed them ahead of conference rivals Sacramento State (191.075) and Alaska Anchorage (188.200), though they narrowly trailed the host team, Utah State, which led with 195.875.

Freshman standout Ariel Collum emerged as a key contributor for the Thunderbirds, achieving a career-high 9.900 on the uneven bars, the highest score in that event for the meet.

The competition commenced with SUU on the uneven bars, where they posted a solid 49.150. Alex Routsis initiated the rotation with a 9.850, setting a positive tone. Following a setback from Mia Hampton (9.075), Collum's impressive 9.900 helped stabilize the team's performance. Contributions from Maria Ferguson (9.800), Niya Randolph (9.850), and Rylee Miller (9.750) rounded out the rotation effectively.

Transitioning to the balance beam, the Thunderbirds accumulated a score of 48.625. Hampton began with a 9.625, followed by a strong 9.875 from Elliot Bringhurst. Miller added a 9.675, while Randolph faced challenges, scoring 9.275. Ferguson and Emma Nipper concluded the rotation with matching scores of 9.725.

On the floor exercise, SUU achieved a total of 49.050. Berlin Hall opened with a 9.775, and Miller followed with a 9.675. Sage Paladino contributed a 9.800, while Carilia Martinez added a 9.775. Hampton and Randolph both delivered strong performances, each scoring 9.850 to close the rotation.

The meet concluded with the vault, where the Thunderbirds posted a 48.700. Mackenzie Kelly led off with a 9.700, followed by Vinciane Le Pen with a 9.650. Bringhurst added a 9.750, and Kayla Pardue delivered a strong 9.825. Randolph and Hall rounded out the event with scores of 9.675 and 9.750, respectively.

Looking ahead, Southern Utah continues its road stretch with an upcoming meet against future Pac-12 opponent Oregon State on Saturday, February 14. The competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. MT and will be available for streaming.
