Music Resonates in New 4M-Gallon Water Tank as Cedar City Celebrates $6 Million Project

Community gathers to inaugurate Eightmile Hills water storage facility

In a harmonious blend of utility and celebration, the Cedar City community gathered on November 4, 2025, to commemorate the near-completion of the Eightmile Hills water storage tank.

This substantial $6 million project stands as a testament to the region's commitment to sustainable water management.

Located west of Iron Springs Road and south of Desert Mound Road, the new facility boasts a capacity of 4 million gallons, making it the largest water tank in Cedar Valley.

During the opening ceremony, attendees were treated to a men's choir performance and a piano rendition of "Abide with Me," their melodies resonating within the tank's expansive interior.

Paul Monroe, General Manager of the Central Iron County Water Conservancy District, addressed the crowd, emphasizing the project's significance in enhancing the region's water infrastructure.

"As we face ongoing drought conditions, diversifying our water storage is imperative," Monroe stated.

"This tank represents a proactive step toward securing our community's water future."

The Eightmile Hills tank is a pivotal component of the Water Infrastructure Improvement Project (WIIP), which includes the installation of new waterlines and the drilling of additional wells.

These efforts aim to bolster the reliability and resilience of the area's water supply.

In collaboration with Building Zone Industries (BZI), the district previously installed a waterline along Iron Springs Road into water basin #71 in the Escalante Basin.

This partnership exemplifies the synergy between public and private sectors in addressing water challenges.

Tyler Melling, Cedar City Councilman and District Board Member, highlighted the project's broader impact.

"The biggest benefit to our community with this line is our ability to share infrastructure and partner with cities like Cedar and Enoch," Melling noted.

"Now that the district has a transmission line and soon-to-be large storage tank, the city will be able to draw its water through shared infrastructure with the district."

As the Eightmile Hills tank nears full operational status, it symbolizes a significant stride in Cedar City's ongoing efforts to ensure a sustainable and secure water supply for its residents.
