LS Electric is significantly enhancing its U.S. operations to address the burgeoning power demands driven by the rapid expansion of AI data centers.
According to industry sources on January 30, LS Electric has recently decided to invest an additional $168 million (approximately 240 billion won) over the next 10 years in its power distribution panel manufacturing subsidiary, MCM Engineering II, located in Cedar City, Utah.
The expansion aims to triple the annual production capacity of power distribution panels, increasing output from 1,200 units to approximately 3,600 units.
Construction is slated to commence within the first half of this year, with the expanded facility expected to be operational by 2027.
These investments are timely, as the global power distribution equipment market was valued at $287.7 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 7.6%, reaching $613.2 billion by 2034.
The surge in demand is largely attributed to the exponential growth of AI data centers, which are significantly increasing electricity consumption.
According to industry reports, data centers consumed approximately 4% of the United States' total electricity in 2024, a figure expected to triple to 12% by 2030.
This escalating demand underscores the critical need for robust power distribution infrastructure to support the expanding digital economy.
By proactively expanding its manufacturing capabilities in the U.S., LS Electric is positioning itself as a key player in meeting the evolving energy needs of AI data centers and the broader power grid.
