How Cut Down Your Own Christmas Tree In Dixie National Forest |
A Guide to Cutting A Christmas Tree in Southern Utah |
Embracing the tradition of cutting your own Christmas tree in the Dixie National Forest is a cherished experience for many families in Southern Utah.
To participate, you'll need to secure a permit, available from November 4 through December 31.
Permits can be purchased online via Recreation.gov or in person at local ranger district offices.
Each permit allows the harvesting of one tree, with fees set at $10 for trees up to 10 feet tall and $20 for trees between 11 and 20 feet.
It's important to note that the maximum allowable tree height is 20 feet.
When selecting your tree, be aware of species restrictions based on the ranger district:
Pine Valley Ranger District: Only pinyon pine and juniper trees may be cut.
Cedar City Ranger District: Permitted species include white fir, subalpine fir, pinyon pine, and juniper.
Powell and Escalante Ranger Districts: All species are allowed except bristlecone pine.
Before heading out, ensure you have a printed copy of your permit, as it must be attached to the tree during transport.
Additionally, fourth-grade students participating in the Every Kid Outdoors program are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit.
To obtain this, students should present their pass or voucher number when purchasing the permit.
For more detailed information and to purchase permits, visit the Dixie National Forest's official website or contact your local ranger district office.
Enjoy your holiday tradition responsibly and help maintain the health of our forests. |
