Community braves ice-cold waters for 'Polar Plunge' to support Special Olympics |
Raising awareness with Special Olympics Utah |
On a brisk Saturday morning, the community of Cedar City gathered at Lake at the Hills for the annual 'Polar Plunge,' a spirited event supporting Special Olympics Utah.
Over 100 attendees cheered as approximately 50 participants, adorned in vibrant costumes, took the daring leap into the frigid waters.
The event, aptly named 'The Polar Paradise,' transformed the lakeside into a festive scene with snow machines and palm-tree photo ops, blending a beach-meets-blizzard vibe.
This year's plunge was part of a statewide series, with similar events held in Daybreak, Sandy, and North Ogden.
Each plunge contributes to the overarching goal of raising $75,000 to support over 6,000 athletes through year-round sports, health, and leadership programs.
Participants who raised $100 earned an exclusive Polar Plunge long-sleeve tee, while those reaching $250 received a beach towel and water bottle.
Top fundraisers were recognized for their outstanding contributions, highlighting the community's commitment to inclusion and support for Special Olympics Utah.
The Cedar City 'Polar Plunge' not only showcased the town's adventurous spirit but also underscored the collective dedication to empowering athletes with intellectual disabilities.
As the event concluded, participants and spectators alike left with a renewed sense of community and purpose, looking forward to next year's plunge. |
